A Path to Follow

Parents leave prints on their children's lives...from years before conception to every second of the day.

Easter 2013

Elijah was outside searching for Easter eggs in his new polo. He kept finding my cousins' eggs before they were all hidden. It's part of the game to find re-hidden eggs that Elijah moved. He even pointed up at the egg that was hidden on a high tree branch. Glad to have him back with us!

At Grandma and Grandpa's

Elijah is at my parents' house this weekend while Erik and I attend a wedding in Springfield. I guess he's having fun throwing tubes over the couch and wondering if those flowers are balls. I miss you!

Easter Basket

Elijah enjoyed getting his Easter basket from Grandma Shelly. When we left her house, he asked for his new duck to hold. I think he liked the chocolate marshmellow treat he ate as well.

Strawberry Shortcake

After a dinner of ribs and yucky broccoli, Elijah enjoyed some strawberry shortcake. He didn't like the shortcake too much. I watched him dropped it behind his head...some landed on his shoulder and the rest crumbled down his back.

Model

One afternoon in the living room, Elijah struts his stuff. Modeling a dinosaur jacket and khakis, this boy has got great style for spring.

Last Year

At this time last year, Elijah was just getting his balance while sitting up and his eczema was finally looking a little better. Now he's running around and climbing plus his eczema only flares up occasionally. I think he'll always look good in a tie.

Pretend

This one is of Elijah pretending to go nigh' nigh' on the couch. He told be "nigh' nigh'" and laid down beside me. He even made snoring noises.

Fine Motor Skills

Look at how well those tiny fingers move the beads along the wire track. He played with these for a very long time this afternoon. You can tell we were working on fine motor skills - notice the crayons too?

Legos

He really liked dumping out all the Legos and putting them back in the bucket. The car and swinging window were fun too.

Nigh' Nigh'

Here's our lil' guy before nigh' nigh' time. He's almost outgrown his baseball pj's.

Artist

He ripped a page out of his coloring book so we could hang it up of the refrigerator. His very first fridge masterpiece.

Easter Book

We're learning all about Easter. The lambs and chicks in this book are fuzzy and the last page tells about going to church and how Jesus died and rose for us. I'm sure Elijah understands the complexity of the true Easter story. However, my focus right now is just to have him treat his books properly - no standing on them, no bending them backwards, no coloring in them, no ripping pages, and no throwing.

Sticker Discovery

Elijah realized that those colorful pages in the middle of his coloring book are actually two full pages of stickers. He put a few on his shirt, a few on me, and I showed him how to put them on other pages in the book.

Swaddle

It's safe to say that Elijah still hates being swaddled. He hated his arms being wrapped when he was first born and he was quick to get out of the blanket today. Notice all the green - happy St Patrick's Day. Did you know...St Patrick used the clover to teach people about the trinity?

On a side note, I've been posting a picture a day for over a year now. Yay! Feel free to go back to last March and see how much Elijah has changed.

My Camera

Every time I took his picture, I said "Gotcha!" Elijah thought that was hilarious.

Driveway Basketball

We were able to play some basketball outside today.

Messy Dinner

Here's our little guy enjoying some blueberries after a spaghetti meal.

Cheesy Biscuit

This boy loves Red Lobster's cheesy biscuits! He liked the shrimp, kind of liked crab, and did not like salmon. I think we'll be returning here in the future...next year...after we get another gift card for Christmas.

Close Your Eyes

I'm trying to hide Easter eggs (actually, Spider-Man Easter eggs) so Elijah will have some sort of idea of what to do when he is supposed to go searching. I didn't want him to just watch me hide them so I asked him to close his eyes. This is the look I got. Does he think he's closing his eyes here or does he just want to watch? Our practicing went pretty well...we'll try a few more times to prepare.

Towel

After bath time, I caught Elijah drying off with his whale towel.

Circles

This was going on for quite some time, so I taped 30 seconds for you. It continued for about another minute after I stopped taping.

Lean Back

Elijah discovered a new trick: leaning back on the dino.

Basketball Dreams

This is the third time this week that Elijah has gone to bed with a ball. One night I let him take his soft pool squishy ball because he was chewing on the tag. Then Erik let him take his little basketball with him since he wasn't ready to let go. Tonight when he knew it was nigh' nigh' time, he grabbed his big basketball and walked off to his room. Some kids have security blankets or pacifiers...our kid has a random ball.

Dino Color

We went to see the doctor for Elijah's 18 month check up. He's doing great in most areas, but Dr says we need to work on developing his fine motor skills. That means more coloring! Elijah would rather organize the colors and toss them or eat them...but we're working on that. He's 31.5 inches (21 percentile) and 23 lbs 6 oz (15 percentile)...still steady on the growth curve they've been tracking so that's good. Only one shot this time and he was crying well before that actually started but calmed down quickly after it was over.

Red Pigtails

T

We went to Wendy's before AWANA tonight. Elijah had a jr cheeseburger.

Elmo Bubbles

We bought Elijah some real kid bubble bath. It has a picture of Elmo on it and is for kids with sensitive skin. I don't think he'sever been surrounded by so many bubbles before. Way too much splashing tonight - my pants are wet.

Vroom Vroom!

Here's Elijah playing with his little cars. He likes to make them crash into all my stuff and knock everything off the table. I like it when he lets the cars go down the ramps that they're made for.

Watching Daddy

Elijah did great at the gym today while we watched Erik play basketball for an hour. He only fell off the blenches twice (more like slid) and wasn't hurt/didn't cry either time. He didn't eat the Skittles we found on the floor. He played nice with his two new friends - receiving hugs and giving high fives and fist bumps. He was only a little upset that he wasn't the one playing with the ball. And Daddy's team won! *claps*

Cheerios Robot

He calls these "chee chee" when asking for more. Lucky for him, we bought another box and he was able to play with this one. For a while he just wore the box as a hat, but Erik wanted to cut out eye holes for him. They're a little off, but he could see well enough to walk around for a while. Boxes are awesome!

Couch Climber

"Up." He says. "Up, up." He can climb up on the couch on his own but always wants a lift if he can get it. Silly kid.
